Landcare Research

As one of the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic’s marine, sport and recreation facilities, this project needed to integrate with a directional campus plan prepared for the client by Chow:Hill. As part of stage two of the plan, it was essential that the complex was a recognisable part of the polytechnic, while developing its own identity.

The $3.3 million complex includes a pool with a 4m-deep dive well, classrooms, boat and dive gear storage, and a gymnasium. Key to its design is an emphasis on sustainable cost and maintenance efficiency. It takes advantage of geothermal heating sources and makes use of environmentally friendly systems for stormwater and pool water disposal.

Chow:Hill were concept architects, documentation architects, and provided site supervision alongside the project managers.
