The Endowed Post Graduate Residential College at Hopu Hopu is the first academic campus in New Zealand that combines the internationally recognised Oxbridge Collegiate teaching model with the cultural character and philosophies of the Tainui people.
Special attention was given to the way the building interacts with the site, as it needed to sit gently on the land and respond appropriately to the significance of the Waikato River and Taupiri Mountain.
Maori art and design is integral in the building's aesthetic. Chow:Hill Architects and interior designers worked alongside artists such as Para Matchitt and Fred Graham to help establish the overall design concepts.
