Inspire a Shared Vision
Leaders look beyond the present and see what is possible.
They have a sense of purpose, and develop a vision worth
achieving. They don't keep their vision a secret - they
communicate the vision, and inspire commitment in others
to share it and make it a reality. They give people a sense
of common purpose, to work together toward an overall achievement.
Challenge the Process
Leaders are pioneers. They seek out new opportunities and
are willing to change the status quo. They remove their
blinkers and look at situations with a fresh perspective.
Leaders innovate, experiment and explore ways to improve
their organisation. They understand that mistakes are inevitable,
and view them as part of the learning process. Leaders are
prepared to meet new challenges that confront them, and
use these as opportunities to blaze new trails.
Model the Way
Leaders are clear about their values and beliefs, and their
actions speak louder than their words. In plain English,
leaders walk the talk. They make their vision and values
tangible for others to see and follow. They get out among
their people and actively participate in their work activities,
thereby setting an example for others to live up to.

Enable Others to Act
Leaders foster collaborative goals, and actively involve
others in planning. They encourage people to think for themselves
and to make decisions. They support their people, rather
than simply control them. Leaders empower their people to
act, and ensure they are capable of doing their jobs well.

Encourage the Heart
Leaders encourage people to persist in their efforts by
recognising their accomplishments and contributions. They
let others know that their efforts are appreciated, and
they express pride in their team's accomplishments. Leaders
find many ways to celebrate successes and achievements.
They nurture team spirit and support amongst their people,
and encourage each individual.
