The New Zealand Blood Service National & Auckland Regional Office brings together, for the first time, the various constituent elements of the Blood Service into a single, integrated and purpose designed facility.

The building provides for a number of different uses including the National Office, the Auckland Regional Office, a donor centre, blood processing and laboratories. The laboratory areas provide specialised facilities for advanced blood analysis, Nat Testing (Nucleic Acid Amplification), PCR Testing(Polymere Chain Reaction), Clean Room Suite and major blood product storage. The NAT testing suite is the first of its kind in Australasia and the spaces are designed with input from blood service organisations in Australia and America.

Design management of the whole process was helped by close staff involvement at every stage from concept design, site selection through to the building contract, commissioning services and equipment. The design brief included laboratory design, specialist laboratory furniture, office planning and a special feature design for the central courtyard to be used for presentations to long time donors and for staff parties and formal functions.
