"Design provides new sense of ownership"

WAIKATO// BOP 2013 NZIA COMMERCIAL ARCHITETURE AWARD WAIKATO// BOP 2013 NZIA COLOUR AWARD

The brief for this competition-winning design called for an innovative and edgy approach to the new headquarters for Mystery Creek Events Centre, home of the National Agriculture Fieldays. Located on the edge of an escarpment that overlooks their 112 hectare lower exhibition site, the building compliments the rural landscape and showcases MCEC and their associated events. The building’s sweeping 70 metre long roof and sculpted grass berms appear as projecting from the landscape. The tall cedar entrance tower positions the prominent entry while giving a landmark to the main MCEC site entrance. An open, airy and light interior inspires users and provides a professional and progressive workplace. The use of bold colours. derived from the vibrant exhibitors and visitors that frequent the MCEC site, set against a black and white back-drop gives the spaces identity and MCEC have embraced the design with new a sense of ownership.
