Traditional teaching environments blend with modern learning practices in Chow:Hill’s design of Ngaruawahia’s 10-classroom redevelopment where innovative learning principles are on display.

Innovative Learning Principles have formed the basis of Chow:Hill’s design of the $15m redevelopment currently being undertaken at Ngaruawahia High School.

The project, which includes the design of a new 10-classroom block that incorporates science, technology and general classrooms, has an open plan philosophy designed to blend traditional teaching environments with modern learning practices.

Materials chosen in the design, such as the timber portal frames, reflect the school’s commitment to sustainability, while high ceilings and clerestory windows allow for natural light and ventilation.

The current design is part of a greater site redevelopment which will see a new IT block, administration building and food tech refurbishment enhance the high school grounds.

All work is expected to be complete in June 2022.

Where possible, Chow:Hill’s design has made use of existing material, reusing timbers and existing plant. The project also features double glazing and insulation levels above code.
