"A balance of physical and psychological needs"

Kidz First Children's Hospital is a place for children, a place for healing, and importantly, a place for families and staff as well. Kidz First is an example of the Total Design philosophy of Chow:Hill Architects. The resulting design embraces a range of different considerations: physical, psychological, sociological and philosophical. The design of the interior spaces was influenced by research into healing environments and the mind-body connection in medicine. Consequently, the interior spaces have been designed to balance the physical needs of a treatment environment with the psychological needs of comfort, care and reassurance. The hospital is designed to be welcoming regardless of age, gender, culture, or race. These considerations are particularly important, as the hospital will care for infants, children, teenagers, and their families.
