Award-winning Landscape Architect Lloyd Atherfold takes a holistic approach to his design, creating landscapes that enhance natural ecosystems and communicate a sense of place.
Passionate about achieving outcomes that cater for a diverse society, Lloyd thrives on the challenge of exploring possibilities that can facilitate safer public spaces and thriving communities.
Dividing his time between Auckland and Blenheim, Lloyd draws on his three decades of experience working in the landscape architecture and design field to create environments that are tailored to both individual site and social needs. Through this career, Lloyd has managed significant projects in public open space and streetscapes, health environments, housing developments, educational facilities, environmental rehabilitation, and commercial design.
He is most interested in design that utilises low impact, sustainable methods, strengthens social capital, and ensures culturally relevant and environmentally friendly solutions. This approach is infused throughout Lloyd’s projects, such as Kāinga Ora and Ngaa Puna Rerenga Wai housing developments; Everil Orr Retirement Village, Stage Three; and the Mason Clinic mental healthcare facility.
